Calling all local businesses, schools, and organizations: It’s time for the 11th Annual Stafford Garden Club Scarecrow Contest!

Registration Deadline: September 22, 2025.

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places based on the number of votes received during Trick-or-Treat on Main Street on Saturday, October 25th.

Setup: We ask that participants bring their scarecrows to Haymarket Common on Main Street between 9 AM and noon on Sunday, Sept. 28th. Those who cannot make it downtown on that date, email Hugh Owen at howen@staffordgardenclub.org and we will work with you to find the best place for setting up your scarecrow. Scarecrows set up in the new park with the fire pit should be on a platform that isn't anchored to the ground by stakes. Gas, electric and water lines run underground in that area.

Guidelines: There is no fee to enter. Please make your scarecrow durable enough to withstand severe weather; attach your business, organization, or school name to your scarecrow; and monitor the condition of your scarecrow. Commercially made scarecrows and those with a political theme are not allowed, nor do we allow promotional materials and giveaways. Scarecrows should be taken down by November 1st.

Voting: Ballots will be cast at the Stafford Garden Club's booth during Trick-or-Treat on Main on Saturday, Oct. 25. We'll announce the winners at 6 p.m. in Haymarket, here on our website, our Facebook page, and Instagram account.
